Massage Therapy Services
National Certification
The national certification is granted to massage therapists who have completed a minimum of 500 hours of training in an accredited school. It is required to practice in the state of Virginia, as is a certificate from the Virginia Board of Nursing. Alexandria has further licensing requirements which involve finger printing and a full background check. All of our therapists have all their licenses and certifications as required by the Alexandria Health Department.

Swedish massage
Swedish massage is the classic western style of massage. It calms and soothes the spirit, eases muscle pain, and facilitates healing. Essential oils can be added to greater effect. The benefits of massage are already mentioned in Chinese manuscripts as far as 2,500 years ago. It has changed and developed as it spread through ages and cultures. Alexander the Great was said to have received regular massages while conquering the world. So take a few minutes out of your schedule to experience what can only improve your quality if life.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue is a general term for massage modalities that focus on the deeper muscles and connective tissue. The goal is to break apart adhesions in the muscle tissue that cause pain and or dysfunction. Deep tissue massage requires good communication with your therapist. Please don’t be shy about letting him or her know how the work feels.
Pre- Natal Massage
Pre-natal massage is massage received during your pregnancy. Many of our therapists have personal experience with the discomforts of pregnancy and are specially trained to deal with those issues. Side lying position is used when a prone position becomes uncomfortable and we are trained to work on those ever aching feet hips and lower back. Massage makes all the difference in the world for truly enjoying your pregnancy.
Infant Massage
Relaxation Unlimited has therapists trained to train you, the parent, to massage your baby effectively. Infant massage enhances the parent child bonding experience (great for dads) and helps with communication. With patience, practice and a little training you can help your baby relax, sleep, expel painful gas and even aid a colicky baby.
Neuro Muscular Therapy (NMT)
NMT is a specific type of deep tissue work and deals with dysfunction in the connective tissue. It can be uncomfortable but the results are truly freeing. It can be combined with Swedish massage and other forms of deep tissue work.
Reiki
Reiki is energy work. It uses a very light touch and deals with what is called the bio-energy field. It can aid in the healing of injuries both physical and emotional and is a powerful stress reducer.
Foot Reflexology
Reflexology is the practice of affecting the entire body through focused work on the feet, although the hands can also be addressed in Reflexology, as well as the ears. Points in the feet correspond to certain areas in the body as well as certain organs. It is an art that has been practiced for centuries with well documented success, it also feels fantastic.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral is a gentle therapy that affects the central nervous system by calming and balancing the Cranio (head) Sacral (the sacrum is the bone at the very base of the spine) system. This involves effects the flow of spinal fluid which cushions and protects the brain and spinal cord. It is wonderful for everything from headaches to physical and emotional trauma.
